The Enviroment

Hi all,
Long time no see! Rather, long time no blog!
I, family child speaking, have been thinking. What have I been thinking about? Well, for one thing global warming. I was thinking about how little some people care, right? You know, because a lot of people aren't doing anything about global warming. So I thought why not tell people about how horrid they are capable of being? (Though it's not like I'm perfect!) So, I'll tell you:
"You should be informing people about global warming! Don't just sit there and watch as the world slowly fades away. Don't just look at the dying polar bears, scrambling to get onto an iceberg that won't melt and float away! So do something, PLEASE! Here, I'll help you out
  • Carpool, walk, bike, scooter, skateboard, rip stick, etc. do anything to use less gas.
  • Hang your laundry to dry! (Don't use drying machine. It uses up too much energy.)
  • Try out staycations! (Planes give off too much exhaust.)
  • Instead of using paper or plastic plates while having a party, try glass or porcelain.
  • Reduce!!! (This is one of the 3 R's. Reducing is important because... well in normal words, big things are overrated!
  • Reuse!!! (This is the second of the 3 R's. Reusing is important because -also in simple words- everything can have an unknown purpose!
  • Recycle!!! (This is the last of the 3 R's. Recycling is great, because it's a better way of getting rid of things. Also, it's one step closer to people reusing for you!!

So all in all, those were some tips!!! PLEASE USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that sounded kind of demanding."

Well, goodbye for now ( I have to go save the world),

-Greenie

  1. Just found your blog via Mist of the Blossom Rain and love the family concept. When I got to this post I had to comment.

I've personally taken "Reuse" one step further by adding a fourth "R", "Repurpose". Sure, I can reuse a jar to store bulk goods. Or reuse a greeting card by turning the cover into a personal note tag for a gift. And while I suppose that technically these are examples of reusing, for me, on a grander scale, the real fun comes when I totally repurpose something.

For example, I took an old shutter, painted it, turned it upside down, secured some fishing line to the back with a couple of screws to make a "hanger" and, viola! A magazine rack made entirely with things I already had at home (remember to take the weight of your filled rack into consideration when selecting your "hanger" materials). Slide some magazines over the slats and you have something that's not only practical but quite a conversation piece.

For another project I took an old wicker four tiered shelving unit that was long past its prime and used the best two tiers to make a night stand for my guest room. The whole unit couldn't be salvaged but I felt good about reducing my waste by 50%, and, I didn't have to buy a nightstand.

Sorry to go on an on, but this is one "green" subject I'm passionate about. Looking forward to keeping up with the blog!
